Does the present wired world of email, tweets and text messages spell the end of the traditional hand written note? I guess not, for there are certain experiences that are incomparable ,time tested and unique! The simple joy and pleasure of receiving a handwritten note; written perhaps by an appreciative father or even your boss can be as one such instance. It conveys so much more depth in feeling and intent ;something no amount of an email can ever replicate.
Which reminds me of an interesting episode, several years ago when my superior officer,a General, broke precedence and personally wrote a Noting on a file that was being processed with a certain Ministry. The 'babus' at the Ministry though otherwise traditional, were surprised to receive a hand written note! They rang up immediately to enquire (sarcastically) whether our office had run out of computer stationery! It was only when they were told that the handwritten note was ,done deliberately to give necessary weightage and a personalised touch to the case ,did they realise its actual import. They cleared the case immediately! Such is the power of the written word!
While emails ,I guess will continue,we should nevertheless not lose touch with our past, and should occasionally also communicate through the written note. The positive impact of a well crafted letter of appreciation will linger in permanence which an email may not achieve!
So the next time don't always reach out for your laptop when you want to say something nice _ go for the pen instead!
Good thought to ponder !!!!
